What We Do

Trainings

WAVA holds quarterly trainings for its members, fellow service providers, and the community at-large during awareness months that focus on issues pertaining to violence and violence prevention. Our trainings vary between in-person and virtual formats, with speakers who are experts and professionals in the field. Past speakers include Dr. Evan Stark, author of Coercive Control, the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) of Los Angeles, and Dr. Jackson Katz, world-renowned educator, speaker, and author.

Our training months and corresponding awareness issue for the 2023-2024 year can be found below:

October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month / Cybersecurity Awareness Month

January – Human Trafficking Awareness Month / Stalking Awareness Month

April – Child Abuse Prevention Month  / Sexual Assault Awareness Month

June – Gun Violence Awareness Month  / Elder Abuse Awareness Month

Annual Project

In addition to trainings, WAVA also identifies one major advocacy project to accomplish every year. The annual project is selected by the strategic planning subcommittee with the input of WAVA’s general member base. Annual projects are chosen based on service gaps in the various areas of violence prevention.

Quarterly Newsletters

WAVA releases a newsletter the month before each of our trainings. Our newsletter covers current events related to anti-violence work in Los Angeles, upcoming trainings and workshops from other organizations, information about WAVA’s upcoming training, and progress updates of our annual project.
